The current research interests include biosensors, nano-biology and molecular/cellular imaging and their applications in virology and cancer biology.
Xian-En Zhang is a Professor in Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and guest professor of the Institutes of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Science & Technology Prof. Zhang received his first degree in Hubei University in 1982, MPhil. (microbiology, 1985) and Ph.D. (biochemistry, 1995) in the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), and Honorary Doctor of Science Degree of Science from University of Alberta, Canada (2015). He has published over 260 peer-reviewed papers and three books on biosensors, biochips and nanobiology.
His academic activities include: vice president Chinese Society of Biotechnology, Fellow of the Royal Society Chemistry (RSCF), Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBEF), member of the permanent organizing committee of the World Congress on Biosensors, founding co-chair of the Division of Nanobiotechnology/Biosensors/Biochips, Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB), He serves as the member of editorial board or advisory board of 8 academic journals including Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Science China-Life Science, Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Synthetic Biology, etc. He once served as Director General, Basic Research Department, Ministry of Science & Technology, in charge of the national basic research.
