Xun XUVisiting Professor

Research directions include the development of sequencing and synthesis technologies and instruments, single-cell sequencing technology, and the application of genome reading and writing technologies in synthetic biology, disease diagnosis and treatment and modern agriculture.

Xu Xun, PhD. He is currently the CEO of BGI group, the Director of BGI Research, the Director of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Genome Read and Write, and visiting research fellow of Center for Synthetic Genomics, SIAT, CAS, the Vice-Chairman of International Organization for Standardization/Biotechnology Committee (ISO/TC276), the Chairman of ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories) China Region, Member of the Global Future Council of the World Economic Forum and the National Committee for Standardization of Biological Samples (SAC/TC559).

At present, 209 papers and 27 patents have been published in SCI, including top international scientific journals such as Nature, Science and Cell, with a citation number over 24,000 in the past five years. He has led or participated in a number of major projects, including the National 863 Sequencing Instrument Development Project and the Industrial Clustering Project of the Development and Reform Commission. He was awarded the "Ministry of Science and Technology Challenges Young Scientists", "Pengcheng Outstanding Talents Award", "Guangdong Science and Technology First Prize" and "Ministry of Education Natural Science Award Second Prize".
